Updates Feb. 26

Hi everyone. So, there's going to be some changes in the plans for the protest, which came up after discussing the issue with administrators.

We had originally scheduled the time for 11:55 AM, because students were not willing to leave in the middle of third period and we wanted maximum student participation. After the committee of organizers discussed this over, we want to be in line with the national movement and have decided to do what all other schools are doing at 10 AM. We know that this is the middle of 3rd period, which is why we have spoken with the administration about consequences for walking out. You will not be penalized for participating in the protest provided you do not do anything that deviates from what we will tell you (i.e. do not yell anything offensive at another student obviously).

Also, the organizers were talking, and there are now over 1200 of you in this group. To get all of you to Barclays is a safety issue. There are streets to cross and someone can get very hurt. We are now going to line the entire Tech perimeter, and if we need to, the block. We think this is a safer option. We will have our reading of the names, moments of silence for the victims, and chants if you all want. For the moments of silence, you can still hold up your signs if you have made them. Because it's gonna be 17 minutes long, we will sit/lie down. Bring a towel or blanket or jacket that you don't mind putting on the ground. If you have other suggestions, feel free to send me a message.

Last, you need to have your ID and all your stuff when you leave at 10 AM to come back. You need to swipe in if you're coming back, so we know that everyone coming back in is actually a student. If you're coming back, when you come back in the building, you will go to your next class.

I am really sorry for the confusion. We ask that you understand that the protest is growing, which is awesome, but brings challenges with organization. Again, we're really sorry for the confusion. Please share this update with your friends.
