The following email was sent to some students on April 14, 2018 and contains everything you need to know for the April 20 walkout rally.

If anyone tells you anything that contradicts the information below, that person is WRONG and you should correct them by directing them to this page. No exceptions!

Hi all,

You’re receiving this email because you may have participated in the March 14 walkout and/or the rally at Borough Hall. Now, we’re announcing the next steps in the movement against gun violence. NYC Says Enough, a coalition of students from more than 30 New York City high schools, is proud to announce the April 20th walkout and rally.

You may have heard some speculation about this, but to avoid misinformation, the official information is below. Please read carefully and tell your friends!

WHAT: Demanding comprehensive gun reform on a federal and local level -- demands include (but are not limited to) comprehensive background checks, demilitarization of NYC police, banning high-capacity magazines and military-style assault weapons, and more.

WHEN: Friday, April 20, 2018 (19th anniversary of Columbine), walk out at 10 AM, arrive at Washington Square Park by 12 PM. The rally ends at 3 PM.

HOW: A/C trains from Hoyt-Schermerhorn or B/D trains from Atlantic Av, either way to W 4 St Washington Square. These are recommended but get there however you prefer.

WHERE: Washington Square Park, New York, NY (follow the signs) -- take the train from Tech

WHO: More than 50 schools from NYC, Westchester and New Jersey. We expect at least 5,000 students total, possibly many thousands more. Survivors from the events in Parkland, Columbine, Sandy Hook, and Pulse will be speaking along with activist Erica Ford and others.

WHY: Because politicians think we'll forget or give up... but we haven't and we won't!

We're not here to ask for donations -- thankfully, our GoFundMe has been fully funded thanks to over 100 generous donors, but more help would always be appreciated!

Here's what you can do to help, besides, of course, walking out and protesting!

  1. Share the event. You can repost and retweet on social media and forward this email. Tell your group chats and invite all of your HS friends to the event on Facebook!

  2. Announce it in classes (with teacher permission). Most teachers at Tech support us, believe it or not, and it only takes 30 seconds. Just tell everyone the who/what/where, etc. Remind them that every person is essential -- your voice and your participation matters!

  3. Remind your friends that there is NO PUNISHMENT for walking out and protesting, even though it is a full-day walkout. Please see our school-specific website for more information on punishment, rather, the lack thereof. If you weren’t punished for walking out on March 14, then you have nothing to worry about. If you were, report it (use the contact form).

  4. Use the contact form here if you have questions. Please read the April 20 page on the website as well as the FAQ on the city-wide website before asking. Most, if not all, answers are there.

  5. Request teachers to refrain from administering tests or quizzes or make projects due on Friday, April 20. Every teacher at Tech knows this. Anyone that threatens to lower grades, give detention, or administer a test without a fair opportunity for makeup should be reported using the contact form here. Remember: you using your First Amendment right is not subject to punishment.

  6. Note: Do not expect an email or announcement from the school administration -- they will not publicly acknowledge this protest in any way given that it is inherently political. Just walk out at 10 AM exactly the same way you did on March 14, then head over to Washington Square Park. It wasn't that hard, was it?

Note: This event is not in any way correlated with any other 4/20 activities. The date was chosen out of respect for the 19th anniversary of the Columbine Massacre. We cannot endorse such other activities, but we ask they do not take place near our rally, as we are liable.

Please don't forget that we are only successful because of your help and participation. Many people ask us if they can help organize. The people who invite Facebook friends, repost on social media, and forward this email are already organizing just by doing so. We can have a beautiful stage and speaker lineup, but we cannot have a protest without protesters!

Thank you so much for all your help!

In solidarity,
